![]() The Voskhod is called a 12AX7, but it seems to hold many characteristics of a 5751, which is 25% less gain or so. Might be viable for a boosted amp but Im not a booster except for leads ! Maybe I'll try it in the DSL100 which has more gain to spare. Admittedly the 900 is not a gain monster but I needed a bit more so I put a tungsol back in V1. It thickens the mids BUT at the cost of gain.In the 900 the best it could get was classic AC/DC tones. Would also be viable for an uber gain amp as they wouldnt suffer from its reduced gain. I can see why these tubes appeal to Laney users as it seems to cut harsh fizz. Well I got one of these 12AX7VKA's to try out today. It's like they took their 6N2P and changed the heaters up for a more 'regular' arrangement. Luckily, the Voskhod seems like it's a 12AX7 pinout, so it's fully compatible. Could hurt the PT secondary if it's not fused. Whats the downside if things dont jibe? Will the tube just fry or will it damage the amp? Not sure how much else of the Voskhod is similar. ![]() Otherwise, it's said that the 6N2P is copied from the old RCA 12AX7 but have lower gain, similar to a 5751. If there is any doubt, check the tube datasheet for pinout connections.ĮDIT: the heaters appear to be connected pin 9 to ground, 4 to one filament lead, 5 to the other filament lead. A lot of Peaveys use series connections on some of their filaments. So if the Voskhod really has it's filaments connected in permanent parallel, they may not be compatible with amps that have a series connection for their heaters. The heater filaments are permanently connected in parallel, where the 12AX7 can be connected in either parallel OR series. Their 12AX7VKA is basically a 6N2P with a 12AX7-compatible pinout.Ī 6n2p would be a 6 volt tube ina 12 volt spot? Sounds fishy. I paid just £8 each for them at Tonbridge (where I later saw them for £6).īTW, the IKEA mat for my Garrard 401 is noticeably superior to an IKEA mat-Ringmat combo, but about the same as the Ringmat alone.Voskhod (Sunrise in English) is a large Russian factory located in Kaluga. Maybe they are (or one of them is) damaged or, since they are merely near equivalent to the other types I would need to tweak the cct of the PhonoII.Īnyway, for those contemplating the switch to 5751s, they do seem to give a worthwhile improvement. Elsewhere on the web these are said to be better than 12AX7, but in this application they don't fire up at all. I'm mystified however, these are reportedly 70% of the gain of the first 2 valves, but volume setting is almost exactly the same between all 3. ![]() GE JAN 5751 - marginally more musical still compared with the Sylvania. Sylvania 12AX7 - definite improvement from the off. Indeed, the best sound I'd ever had from LP ![]() A number of BBers have either coverted the PhonoII valves to 5751 or shown interest in doing so. ![]()
